A guilty plea to a traffic ticket can increase insurance rates, suspended a driver license, or even result in a misdemeanor conviction. Swaim Law, PLLC may be able to avoid license or insurance consequences altogether by analyzing the traffic ticket and driving record, and then negotiating a reduction to the citation. Swaim Law handles most traffic tickets for a flat fee that includes court costs and fines, and without our clients ever having to go to court.

Additionally, in many of the local counties where we practice, there are local rules with respect to traffic violations and how they are negotiated with the District Attorney’s office. As we are familiar with the local rules of practice in these counties, we come to court prepared with that knowledge and are best able represent our clients.

The Points Systems

There are two different point systems used in North Carolina in regards to traffic violations: Driver’s License Points, used by the DMV, and Insurance Points.

The DMV keeps track of your traffic violations by adding points to your driving record, and, if you amass too many points, these are the penalties you could face:

  • Receiving a driver’s license suspension or revocation
  • Being required to complete a driver improvement/defensive driving course
  • Owing fees and fines to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles and/or the traffic court
  • Driver’s license restrictions

The Insurance points, on the other hand, is designed to assign a percentage by which your vehicle insurance carrier can raise your insurance rates for convictions of Traffic Citations, and the increase stays in place for three years.

With all of this possible complications, save yourself the headache and give us a call.
